MONDAY MATTERS | News Worth Knowing October 19th
News and topics that will shape the week ahead:
Earlier today, Elon Musk announced he will give every American child one share of SpaceX stock, worth over $10 billion at today’s stock price. This would be the single largest charitable contribution in U.S. history. This follows Michael Dell's announcement of over $6 billion to be donated to the U.S.’s most disadvantaged children’s Trump Accounts. And Ken Griffin recently pledged $3 billion to build a Carnegie Mellon campus in Miami. It seems these billionaires must have read my recent Weekly Wisdom post about our “stingy elite.”
Also today, United Airlines CEO came out in support of a national wealth tax and substantial inheritance taxes in order to reduce inequality. Due to the extreme wealth inequality, ideas like Kirby’s are gaining a foothold in the DSA and other extremist groups. That is why it is essential that President Trump deliver a robust economy with low inflation by the end of his term.
As the Russia-Ukraine War continues without end, President Putin recently proposed a trilateral summit among China, Russia, and the United States to discuss the war. The realities of our new multipolar world suggest that an agreement among these three powers may lead to an enduring peace.
