Weekly Wisdom | Elon The Great
Our Techno King
The United States is facing several grave issues at once: a Cold War and technological competition with China, a national debt exceeding $40 trillion, and inflation that remains too high. Despite the doomerism of the political influencer class, Elon Musk remains ever the optimist as he accelerates plans to build Tesla and SpaceX into the most disruptive tech companies on Earth. And if he succeeds, the resulting productivity and economic growth could help America confront some of these daunting challenges.
Tesla and SpaceX recently announced plans to build the massive Terafab semiconductor complex in Grimes County, Texas, northwest of Houston. Once fully developed, the facility could encompass an astounding 100 million square feet, potentially making it the largest building complex in the world. The first phase alone is expected to cost $16.8 billion, while total investment could eventually reach nearly $120 billion.
The Terafab fits into the ongoing effort by tech entrepreneurs and the Trump administration to rebuild advanced manufacturing capacity in the United States rather than relying so heavily on overseas production. Furthermore, in our tech competition with China, a large domestic semiconductor complex will help the United States produce the vast quantities of chips required to fuel the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Tesla’s Robotaxi network is also rapidly expanding across the United States. After initially launching its autonomous ride-hailing service in Austin, Tesla has steadily expanded its service area and introduced Robotaxi operations into additional markets. As the company continues to improve its Full Self-Driving technology and expand its fleet, Robotaxi could represent another major step toward the widespread commercialization of autonomous transportation.
SpaceX, Elon Musk’s largest company, is expected to reach a revenue run rate of roughly $8.3 billion per month by this December, representing an increase of approximately 220% over the average monthly revenue generated during the prior quarter. This rapid growth can be attributed to the popularity of Starlink, government rocket-launch contracts, and its growing AI and AI infrastructure businesses. There is also growing speculation that Tesla and SpaceX could eventually merge, potentially creating one of the world's most valuable and technologically advanced companies.
If Musk’s empire is successful, the United States will remain the dominant technological, economic, and military superpower. Out-innovating China and driving rapid economic growth will lead to a better world overall, as consumers around the globe benefit from the productivity gains enabled by his network of technologies. As patriotic Americans, we should all be rooting for the Muskonomy to succeed!
