Weekly Wisdom | Why MAHA Matters
A Sobering Look at the Facts
Domestically, President Trump’s immigration and inflation policies have received most of his administration’s attention; however, the MAHA (Make America Healthy Again) movement, led by Secretary Kennedy, has been quietly successful. And we should be thankful for that! The MAHA movement is politically powerful and a critical component in making America great again.
American health data is bleak:
According to recent CDC data, roughly 40.3% of American adults are classified as obese. And 13.5% of adults are diabetics.
Total Medicare spending on end-stage renal disease was $55.3 billion in 2023, representing nearly 1% of the federal budget!!
When compared with other developed countries, the United States falls short: the average American life expectancy is 78.4, while the OECD average is 81.1. And the U.S. spends more than twice per capita to achieve worse results!
As of 2025, it’s estimated that 7.2 million Americans aged 65+ have Alzheimer’s, which costs the federal government near $250 billion in combined Medicare and Medicaid spending. By 2050, the number of American seniors with Alzheimer’s will increase to 12.7 million.
While cancer survival rates are trending positively, the number of cancer cases - especially aggressive cancers in younger people - is increasing overall.
Sadly, another fifty bullet points could have been added to show the state of America’s disastrous health outcomes. The MAHA movement, led by Secretary Kennedy, aims to address and quickly improve the unfortunate health care reality in America. The MAHA movement, embraced by President Trump, has seen successes one year into his administration. But there remains an enormous amount of work to be done. May we pray for Secretary Kennedy and President Trump to continue down this path of lower health care costs and improved regulations!
