Weekly Wisdom | The Miami Moment

The Rise of a Global City

Miami, famous for its beautiful water and beaches, is also termed by some prominent investors as the “Crypto Capital” of the world. Considering the global embrace of cryptocurrencies, this is a major achievement, as competition in digital finance is fierce. But with a pro-business state government and tech-aligned leaders like former mayor Francis Suarez, Miami is in for an explosive 2026. But other developments are helping Miami become a major global city.

Miami is rising, and here are some reasons why:

  1. This Monday, the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami will host the college football national championship game, featuring the Miami Hurricanes against the Indiana Hoosiers. This is similar to when the 2020 Tom Brady-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the Super Bowl in Raymond James Stadium.

  2. The same Hard Rock Stadium will also host seven games of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the world’s largest sporting event.

  3. The world’s elite are increasingly choosing Miami as their place of residence. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos spent over $200 million last year acquiring multiple properties on Indian Creek Island. And recently, Google co-founder Larry Page spent $173 million on two Coconut Grove properties as billionaires flee California for Miami.

  4. Secretary of State Marco Rubio was born in Miami to Cuban immigrants. He completed high school in his hometown and earned his JD from the University of Miami. His anti-communist beliefs, which were informed by his upbringing in Miami, are changing Latin America. President Trump has empowered Marco Rubio to fundamentally change our relationships with hostile countries in Latin America. For proof, see Venezuela. Unsurprisingly, the Trump administration’s actions in Latin America are popular with the Cuban and Venezuelan populations residing in Miami.

  5. The 2026 G20 Summit will be hosted by President Trump at the Trump National Doral. This is a prestigious gathering of the leaders of the world’s major countries.

The rise of Miami benefits MAGA and the broader conservative movement as it outshines other American cities due to its low regulations and pro-business environment. As Miami continues to attract capital from abroad and hosts the world’s best events, the city's reputation will only grow from here. And as the majority of American cities are “Blue,” Miami will serve as a strong counterpoint that cities can’t be conservative and vibrant. As many locals say, “Viva Miami!”
