The Great Scott Bessent
Six months into the Trump Administration, it is clear that Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent has emerged as its most effective member. In a cabinet full of all-stars (i.e., Secretary Rubio, Secretary Kennedy), Secretary Bessent has been the standout.
Consider the following accomplishments:
No cabinet member championed the benefits of President Trump’s signature legislation — the Big, Beautiful Bill — more eloquently and passionately than Secretary Bessent.
Similarly, Secretary Bessent was a driving force behind the recently passed GENIUS Act, which establishes guidelines for the rapidly evolving stablecoin industry. The financial sector is changing swiftly, and the United States will continue to lead thanks to Secretary Bessent’s efforts.
Secretary Bessent has also been the Trump Administration’s most articulate defender of tariffs — emphasizing both their strategic role in trade negotiations and their importance in correcting historic trade imbalances. As recent data have shown, tariffs haven’t been inflationary.
Like his boss, Secretary Bessent has sharply criticized Federal Reserve Chairman Jay Powell’s tenure, arguing that interest rates remain unnecessarily high relative to current inflation levels.
When President Trump announced Scott Bessent as his pick for Treasury Secretary, it was a massive win for the United States. Why? Because I knew his unique background in the financial world and his overall economic philosophy would contribute to the many policy successes we’ve seen.
Secretary Bessent is helping President Trump shape both the financial sector and global trade in ways not seen in decades. If his trajectory continues, he will go down as one of the most outstanding Treasury Secretaries in United States history.
